Dr. Slaviero is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in personal counseling and career counseling. She treats those who are struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship issues. She has a particular interest in women's issues, including body image, eating, and fitness concerns. Regarding career counseling, she addresses issues concerning career exploration and career changes. Dr. Slaviero encourages relationship work, healthy lifestyle changes, and personal empowerment as part of the counseling process. She employs elements of interpersonal, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral therapy in her work.
Dr. Slaviero graduated Magna Cum Laude from Illinois State University with Departmental Honors in Psychology. She earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and returned to Illinois State University as an intern at the Student Counseling Services. Dr. Slaviero has extensive training in personal counseling and career counseling with the student population. While completing her doctoral program, Dr. Slaviero spent four years counseling students at the Counseling Center at Southern Illinois University. She also worked as a counselor at Eastern Illinois University on a part-time basis while she was at EIU.
As the Interim Director of Women's Studies at Eastern Illinois University, Dr. Slaviero was responsible for the academic program in Women's Studies, the Women's Resource Center, events planning for Women's History Month, and teaching Women's Studies courses. Her teaching experience also includes courses in the Psychology Department at SIU-C, Concordia University-Chicago, Lewis University, and most recently, North Central College.
Dr. Slaviero is the former Managing Editor for Psychotherapy: Theory/ Research/ Practice/ Training, which is a journal published by the American Psychological Association. Dr. Slaviero is a member of the Illinois Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
